Urgent call to solve the I.V. solution shortage
ASA continues to push for options to mitigate the challenge.

ASA leaders have assembled a timely session on the current I.V. solution shortage that is affecting anesthesiologists, patients, and facilities across the country.
While ASA continues to push Baxter and federal authorities to provide options for mitigating the shortage, anesthesiologists have been implementing conservation strategies and leading efforts locally to protect patient safety and access to care.
Panelists in the 2024 session, "An Urgent Situation: The Impact of Baxter IV Solution Shortages on Patient Care and Safety," discussed conservation efforts, patient safety considerations, and how anesthesiologists can lead efforts within their own facilities. This session also offered ASA members an opportunity to share their stories and network on this significant and urgent issue that is affecting our patients and our practices.
