Join us to honor anesthesiology leader Dr. Claude Brunson in Philly!
Celebrating this singular pioneer in the specialty.

ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2024 attendees are invited to a special reception that will honor Claude D. Brunson, MD, FASA, a pioneering anesthesiology leader within his home state of Mississippi and far beyond. Among his many contributions to ASA, Dr. Brunson delivered the Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture in New Orleans in 2022. Dr. Brunson is the first and only African American to serve as Mississippi State Medical Association President in the organization's more than 160-year history. He is also the first and only African American to serve as its Executive Director.
The reception will celebrate this singular pioneer in the specialty and help support the Claude D. Brunson, MD Anesthesiology Fund, which was recently established at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. All funds from the endowment will support wellness initiatives, professional development activities, innovative programs, advocacy, and advancement of physician-led clinical care at Mississippi’s only academic medical center.
In his 2022 Rovenstine Lecture, Dr. Brunson proposed to his audience an alternate interpretation of the term “DEI,” which he called “Dare to Explore and Invite.” In the spirit of that declaration, we invite all annual meeting attendees to join us in honoring a leader who has given so much in the advancement of the specialty and the patients we care for.
The reception will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Grand Ballroom Salon A at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. For more information, please visit umc.edu/brunson. For questions or assistance, contact Suzanne Crell at [email protected].
